The realization that State Councils, since their formation have now come of age to initiate the phase where their resources in terms of either expertise or technology or both can be pooled together to undertake S&T programmes which can visibly make the impact of S&T interventions felt in the states.

In the department following are the major components of DST’s pro- active approach

• Identification of State relevant technologies developed; in the lab awaiting field trials through demonstration project.

• Developing a technology and management system to ensure sustainability of technical interventions through concept demonstration projects.

• Identification of successful experiences of the State S&T councils and replication in other interested states having similar problem.

• Identification and support to state specific studies leading to well defined action plan for implementation of S&T intervention.

• Identification of appropriate location specific R&D and technology development projects to meet specific state needs.

• Upgrading skills of people through supporting training programmes on specific novel technologies leading to better livelihood.
